"Why would I hire you and not just use ChatGPT?" A fair question, and we are happy to answer it honestly. For many tasks a generic tool is fine. For others, a custom solution is the difference between handy and reliable enough to build on. Here is how you choose.

What a generic tool does well

ChatGPT and similar tools are excellent for general work: drafting a text, sharpening an idea, helping write code, brainstorming. As an individual productivity boost they are hard to beat, and often that is exactly enough.

Where a generic tool falls short

As soon as it comes to your organisation, generic tools hit their limits:

  • They do not know your data. A generic tool knows nothing about your documents, processes or customers, and therefore gives generic answers.
  • They sometimes invent. Without grounding in your own sources, a wrong answer sounds just as convincing as a correct one.
  • No source citations. You cannot verify where an answer comes from.
  • Privacy risk. What you enter leaves your organisation. More on that in can I paste company data into ChatGPT?.

What a custom solution adds

A custom AI solution runs on your own documents and processes. It answers only from your controlled sources, shows a source citation with every answer, and you decide what the system does and does not say. That is the difference between a handy tool and a system that customers, citizens or colleagues can rely on. That is exactly why we built KiesKennis the way we did: only official sources, always with a citation, and honestly silent where the answer is missing.

The rule of thumb

Use a generic tool for personal, general, low-risk work. Choose custom as soon as the answer must be correct, must draw on your own knowledge, or must be reliable towards the outside world. What a custom AI chatbot costs is covered in what does an AI chatbot cost?.
